This is a drop-in class. Registration not required. $20 per session, paid at the door. CASH ONLY. Draw or paint from a live model on Tuesday evenings. No formal instruction provided; instructor is present to coordinate class and model only. Admission fee includes model fees.

Based on methods from her popular "Happy Accidents" workshops, Laura is back with a high energy, fun, productive class! Unlike previous workshops, students will focus the end results, using various techniques, such as, how to use stencils, collage, image transfer, drawing, and text. Move from one small painting to the next, learning specific artistic language to critique work and learn from successes and mistakes (although Laura would say there are no mistakes!). All skill levels welcome! Experimentation strongly encouraged!

The AAC is showing Georgia O'Keeffe's pastel From Pink Shell, unseen since 1931. Curator of Drawings, Dr. Ann Prentice Wagner, will discuss O'Keeffe's early modernist drawings. After lunch students will observe nature, experiment with scale, and use line and color while abstracting the natural world on sanded paper like O'Keeffe. Pastels, paper, and drawings will be provided or bring your favorite art kit. All skill levels welcome!

This class in making pastels like Georgia O'Keeffe is being held to celebrate the first exhibition in 85 years of O'Keeffe's pastel From Pink Shell. O'Keeffe drew this beautiful work in 1931 under the inspiration of petrified shells she had picked up outside, Taos, New Mexico. It was exhibited at the American Place Gallery in New York later that year and then was not seen again in public until it was left to the Arkansas Arts Center by long-time supporters Louise and Fred Diercks. From Pink Shell is a glorious example of the pastel technique to be taught in this class by Virmarie DePoyster. O'Keeffe at this early date made many such pastels on sanded paper, combining naturalism with abstraction.

Curator of Drawings, Dr. Ann Prentice Wagner, will begin the class by discussing with students the great American modernist artist Georgia O'Keeffe and her early modernist use of drawing media like pastel. Wagner wrote her dissertation on O'Keeffe's modernist drawings, so she is eager to share her ideas. The class will have lunch and then spend the afternoon trying their hand at pastel on sanded paper with the guidance of Museum School instructor and internationally recognized pastel artist, Virmarie DePoyster.

Combine silk and silk dyes to make an original infinity scarf for yourself or a friend and then use the papers left over from the dying process to make an encaustic monoprint in this weekend workshop. All skill levels welcome! All supplies provided by instructor. A $35 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.

This class teaches a step-by step approach that simplifies the process of painting in oil. Learn the basics of composition, perspective, volume, color-mixing, and applying and manipulating paint. Learn to render objects in a naturalistic setting.

Designed for students working at all skill levels of painting using oils or acrylics. Students will be encouraged to work on subject matter of their choice and to experiment with various styles with technical guidance by the instructor. Students will be free to work independently.

Concentrate on using experimental techniques with acrylic paints, including pouring liquid acrylics. Alter surfaces, using acrylic paint skins, rice paper, tissue paper, and other multi-media strategies. This will be a fun time to experiment and see what you do by letting GO!

Explore the versatile medium of watercolors with a fun and experimental approach. Delve into multiple subject matters, including abstract, portraiture, and landscapes, using multiple traditional and nontraditional techniques with the use of easy-to-find household tools. All skill levels welcome!

~

Lisa's work has been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions nationally and internationally, including shows across the southern United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Stockholm, and Hamburg. Most recently she was chosen as the October 2015 cover artist for the international art publication, Fresh Paint Magazine. In 2015 she received the Delta Award in the prestigious AAC 57th Annual Delta Juried Exhibition showcasing contemporary American art from Southern artists. Her work has also won First Place in the 2015 Batesville Area Arts Council National Juried Exhibition, and the Juror Award in the 2015 Irene Rosenzweig Juried Biennial Exhibition. She has been named "One To Watch" in Saatchi Art Magazine and a "Woman to Watch" by Soirée Magazine in her home state of Arkansas. Her work is included in several private and corporate collections in Arkansas as well as in collections around the world. She is currently represented by M2 Gallery in Little Rock, AR and Retrospect Galleries in Byron Bay, Australia.

Enjoy creating watercolors not intended to be hung on the walls – but rather as sketchbooks, cards, book marks, and personal displays. Use watercolor, pen/ink, colored pencils, crayons, and other mixed media to capture nature's beauty. Each class meeting will have a project to enjoy or add to your sketchbook-journal.
